Non-NGAUC Review ~

Quite the interesting piece.
I like what I hear, and as far as your official critic's have pointed out everything that I would have said myself...however...they forgot to throw in the simple fact that this piece instates a wonderful feeling of nostalgia! You can't exactly go wrong with a nostalgic piece like this...as it takes me back to my early 90s metal head banger days for some odd reason!

The ups and downs of this piece are what gives it the identity of Non-Amature based work!
Keep, IT, COMING!

Downloaded, fav'd, 5/5!

Reminds me of a few of the MMX series endings...

When are you going to sell your work to Nintendo or Sega?
These morons are bringing back the retro games and i LOVE it!
Just waiting on the PS1 and N64 releases next!

LOL Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A START! (select then start if 2 players)
Takes me back to those retro days indeed.
I've been emulating a lot of NES GBC and SNES games here lately...might want to look into some N64 games like Goldeneye 007, Quest 64, Bomberman64 and Bomberman Hero for prime examples that kinda took a step back to retro style beats...but with a 128kbps flare lol!

Excellent work as always!

Screams Megaman in every single possible direction.
Beats are on key, melody is 99% spotless.
The hype, atmosphere, and catchy jig one can do jammin' to this is priceless.

WHY didn't I find this when digging around for megaman stuff?

This is FAR from dubstep...
You're missing drops, reverbs, and grinds.
This would fit heavily into trace/rave/club.

Might want to reconsider your style.
Fair =/= Fair.

DJVI responds:

Hi JustShawn! Dubstep is still the closest genre for this track even though it is not "clean" dubstep. The tempo of the track, beat/chord structure and bass fills are similar to dubstep and not very present on trace/rave music.

Best genre for the track would be melodic dubstep or even chillstep but Newgrounds genre options are currently very limited. Besides genres are just tool for people to categorize songs from each other and should not be taken too seriously.

There are sooo many games that I can pinpoint right now within this piece!
Dragon Warrior - Castle Theme
Megaman 2 - Metal Man
Astanax - Intro
Abbadox - Final Stage

All NES classics, and the way you composed these...and put them together, just makes me wanna dig out my USB and replay these classics! You...have TALENT!
The bass kick, perfect!
The Lead, perfect!
Electronica Keynotes, a little off-time, but fantastic none the less!
The tempo could use maybe an increase, not by a lot...but just enough to really give it some extra hype!

5/5 Fav'd

FaxonFury responds:

Wow, thank you so much for the positive response! It really means a lot to me ^-^

I was wondering when you were going to show your face again!
You have a lot going on in this piece and it's fantastic!
A nice mellow intro, into something a little more fierce...then a switch to a bit more grungy...

The atmosphere change at 3:50 <3 YAY!
Man, I'm just loving this piece to pieces and each and every single note :P
MORE! WE WANT MORE!!!!!

Ok and as far as my review goes...Neon-Bard took the words out of my mouth...AGAIN!
The hit-and-miss is noted, but it does add identity to this piece...not everything is smooth and polished...be sure to run through this again and take a closer listen, and maybe space some stuff by a few miliseconds or so?
The strings...uh....well, I have nothing to really say other than what Bard has stated.

You have some serious talent, and it shines here. But no artist is flawless!
You need to dig a bit deeper into your soul and push that forward into your next piece...make it trashy, thrashy, and LOUD!

5/5 5/5 :-)

Your flow is all over the place in this piece. You need to cut the spacing between notes and the beat dramatically. At 0:40 - 1:12...you really need to do some work there and get everything sounding more realistic and less generic, I would also suggest you adjust the tempo a little bit so you can see what I am talking about.

Your loop is spot on, but the spacing leaves this piece to be desired. The melody reminds me a LOT of Willow on the NES (which is a good thing and earns you 3 stars). Touch this puppy up some and utilize some change-ups and lengthen this piece a little more and you will see some high ratings come your way.

MarkFiend responds:

Thx dude, i will care about those spaces in a future..im glad that someone can give me a true review about my work...i was feelin empty because I wasnt sure about what i was doing...yes, I note imperfections, but I rlly need someone to be specific with my weak points. Thank you, very aprecciated. Experiment with chiptunes in fl studio could be a mess. Ps. Srry english its not my native language

Getting better and better with every tasty morsel you throw to us wolves!
I sense a heavy inspiration from LoZ (who doesn't love LoZ!!!) and I LIKE IT!

I do have to agree with JK though. A heavier touch of Bass and MAYBE some vocals woulda really rocked this piece.
Love the flow, the melody, and the atmosphere that it creates...and the type of games I play online, this suits the gameplay perfectly :-3

Well Done!

DanJohansen responds:

Glad you like it man! I wasn't inspired by Zelda actually, which of the games did you have in mind? :D
Cool that you used it for some background music during your gaming btw, cheers!

Like Metal, Rock, BGM Revisions & Mixes. Comical Flashes, Parody's, and anything that will entertain me. I will critique to the fullest, add some ideas, pointers, and maybe even assist you in creation of high quality projects.
